Hi all, I don't know if this is normal, but I have a vrs with the manual 6 speed gearbox, and it seems to go into reverse way to easy !?.. mostly when I'm in nuetral and want to go to into first, I seem to get into reverse instead ! Not all the time, but more times than I want to. Is this normal?.. I had a 6 speed manual on my leon, and never had this problem.

Have the linkage reset by your dealer. That should cure it.

There were quite a few people on here who had a similar problem (mostly when trying to go from reverse to 1st).

When leaving reverse the gator-lock clicks (so it should not be in reverse) but the car moves backwards when selecting 1st gear.

It should not go into reverse unless you push down on the shifter before pushing to the left.

 

As James suggested a readjustment of the shifter linkage is required.

 

Hopefully your dealer is helpful because I think a few were initially told that it was a "characteristic" of the VW manual gearboxes.

It will only take them 10 minutes so insist it is done

Gabbo, thinking about it that's what happens, I go from reverse to first, but go to drive and it's still in reverse!.. accident waiting to happen :-(
