Winter tyres offset

Featured Replies

Hello

I have 195/55R15 ET42 tyres/rim on my 1.6L petrol 2008 Roomster.

I see there are some 185/55R15 ET47 steel rims and tyres on ebay.

Would you think they are OK?

The 5mm difference in offset being compensated by 10mm less tyre width.

Would this effect insurance if tyre sizes difference from recommended?

Thank you

Rob

Less than 2% difference in overall diameter (and hence overall gearing) with those two tyre sizes.  Are the wheel rim widths the same?

My insurance company insist that the tyre and wheel sizes are approved by the car manufacture and that the tyres are fitted to the correct width rims.   If so insured then with no increase in premium.  if not they look at each case individually but may refuse to insure.

The rims are 6J 15 rims which would agree with standard roomster size but these have a 46 offset (i said 47 in first post).

I belive my rims for my roomstar are 42 offset but could be 43.

Hi DrWho. By any chance are you looking at wheels / tyres for sale by wilfthewolf? If so I'm looking into your question as it's me selling them. They were sold to me as the right wheels for our Roomster Scout by a Skoda dealer so should be right. The only issue I had was that originally I had 195 tyres on, but they were approved for every model other than the Scout so I had to put the 185 tyres on to make sure it was an approved combination. I'll dig out the data (I think it came from ELSAWIN) and confirm, even if its not you asking.

Oh and I've just looked at the information and realised the listing is wrong and they are 43 offset.  I have a photo of the marking on a wheel so will add it here if I can, and amend the listing.

Excellent. All sorted. Thank you

I would almost put my money on that some Roomsters may come with the 185/55 dimension tires, others the 195/55. May be different engine sizes etc...
Offset is usually not an issue if +- 5mm of what the car came with originally (by laws in Norway), and personally I've ran <= 15mm lower ET on cars with no hassle (depending on car and overall dimensions of rims and tyre).
