Skoda Fabia 1.4mpi 02 reg

Featured Replies

Hello

I was looking for any advice on my skoda, it is having troubles with starting.

It started as an intermittent problem, where it would occassionally just cut out straight after turning over. Sometimes it would start and run perfectly with no problems. Now it wont run at all.... it will start and then cut out straight away... I then have to wait a good 5 minutes before trying to start it again. If i do it instantly after cutting out it wont tick over at all... will just feel as if the engine will flood.

The spark plugs and crankshaft sensor have both been changed trying to fix this problem.

Had no luck after the spark plugs were done, after the crankshaft sensor was changed, it started a few times but wasnt run or driven... after 5 minutes the problem was back and will not start again... any ideas?

Thankyou in advance

Hi mate,

Dont take my word for this but when i had my MPI it used to cut out sat in traffic. Alls i did was take the throttle body off and give it a proper good clean with some carb cleaner.

Mine also used to run on 3 cylinders if it was cold which turned out to be a dodgy coilpack. Not sure if either of these problems i had with mine relate to yours but id personally give the throttle body a clean anyway as they get really dirty over the years.

Hope any of this helps mate, sorry i couldn't give a definitive answer.

Thanks, Jonezy

Hey thanks for the response.

Tbh those havent been considered in part of the problem, may well be worth a look. Once the car is running i have no problem at all sat in traffic etc. Its just when starting. Been advised ot could be a fuel filter or fuel related but I do think it could be something more than that, il speak to the guy whose beeb looking at the car about the throttle body and see if that works! Thanks again

No problem mate, happy to help.

I would clean the throttle body anyway if i was you. Ticks something off your list and will make your car run a lot smoother. And is nice and cheap to do :)

Needs scanning for fault codes. You can buy cheap scanners on ebay.

I have a Vgate one.

immobiliser on the blink ?

  • Author

Could possibly be the immobiliser.. had one occassion where the light was flashing for a while on the dash. However there are no lights flashing on the dash whatsoever. I think there is an electrical fault throughout the car and has been since I had it... doors automatically locking and unlocking when driving along for example. Will try getting a new immobiliser, with having no real clue about cars and parts, are they an expensive purchase?

The immobiliser is part of the printed circuit on the back of the instrument cluster. If you change the cluster (new or used) it has to be reprogrammed to the car. However there are sometimes problems with the immobiliser reader coil or its wiring on the ignition switch.

The doors randomly unlocking is probably unrelated and may be caused by a faulty microswitch in the lock unit inside the door, or broken wires in the rubber trunking between car body and door. Both common issues and widely covered on here.
