Collected vRS today - questions

Featured Replies

Hey guys

Picked up my 02 plated vRS today and drove her from N'hampton to S'hampton. Lovely car and lovely performance - except that I had a little duel on a straight road with a souped up Seat Ibiza and was gutted that I couldn't shake him and he whipped past me as I conceded and pulled over :(

Question - have never had a turbo charged car before. The thing I've noticed with mine is that the power seems to come in waves - it accelerates hard and I expected it to just keep charging up through the revs but I can feel ever such a slight 'gap' every few seconds - a dodgy analogy might be someone blowing really hard but then having to take a very quick in-breath and then blowing really hard again. Don't get me wrong - it still charges and there is no drop-off in the rev-meter.

I was wondering cos I;m told that it has been chipped to 225bhp and I couldn't help wonder if this was some sort of side effect of that?

Also - I'm in Southampton - anyone know of a good tuner down here who could look and see exactly what has been done chip-wise and exactly how many BHP she is putting out?

Thanks

Sean

You probably came across a suped up Ibiza Cupra turbo. ;)

There was a rolling road day at some tuner in Southampton a while. Not sure which tuner it was though.

Hey guys

I suppose the boost pressure could be dropping off, caused by one of the regulating valves or by an engine fault code reducing pressure.

I found that coming from a normally aspirated car the response felt a little soft at first and it took a little getting used to.

The boost builds up fairly slowly and at higher rpm on a standard car, but re-mapped comes in quite fast with more of an audible 'whirring' noise and more of a hiss on blow-off. Torque is strong and remains so.

I wouldn't have thought that many cars could 'whip' past, but then again if they were going faster to begin with or got on the gas earlier they'd have an advantage.

Sounds like it's surging to me. This seems to be a common prob, with many different causes. Try a search.

My 05 model was doing it. Tried to get it sorted under warranty- no fault code came up, so they said there wasn't a prob. Thanks Clist & Rattle...

Got it sorted by Bamfords in Gloucester. They spent an age and tried all sorts. They finally sorted it with the help of Skoda Technical. Apparently, quite a few of the later vRS Octavias left the factory with a hose on back to front (soz- not sure which one!). They swapped it round and it's a very different car now. Pulls smoothly to the redline in all gears. Before, it accelerated hard, then backed off for a sec, before re-engaging and going again, then backing off etc. Didn't do it every time, but was damn annoying!

Probably different to issues I had but do a search for 17705, maybe some of the suggestions might help :)

mine did this when the MAF went, if you have any warranty on the car may be worth checking.
