Passenger door electrics

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Ive an intermittent problem with the passenger door electrics.  Sometimes it doesnt lock when locked from the drivers side control or with the fob (the door pin will pop back up - but will lock down with another press of the fob), and today I noticed the interior light didnt come on when opened or the puddle light.  The central locking unlock doesnt work also from the fob (but hasnt for a number of years)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I've had something similar to this (intermittent/temperamental lock operation) progressively occur at different times over the last 18 months on all four door locks on my 2003 Octy.  Over that time I've had to take 3 of the lock modules out and completely stripped them down (fairly straightforward once you get amongst them).  In every single case the intermittent locking/unlocking has been down to a dirty, tarnished armature on the internal motor.  The 4th one (the only 1 that's not been out and stripped down yet) is now currently playing up, so that is about to get the treatment this weekend before the weather turns!

With patience and care, it is possible to actually take the internal motor apart to clean up the armature (I use a fibreglass pencil).  On all those that I've done in that time, non have misbehaved since putting them back in.

The motor is the most likely cause of the intermittent locking problem on the one door.  However, the interior & puddle lights not coming on points towards either the latch micro-switch or a dry solder joint for it on the internal PCB (both built into/within the lock module).

These are all common faults within these lock modules, unfortunately.  I also have a Leon of the same era, which had the motor problem in one of the rear doors (the Octy and Leon use exactly the same type of lock modules, as they are common to all VAG cars based on the Golf MkIV platform).

The non-operation from the fob suggests a problem with the fob itself - May simply be the battery, or the rolling code might possibly have gone out of sync with the car, perhaps?  Do you have a spare fob you can try?  (I've just re-read your post.  If the car locks with the fob but won't unlock with it, that suggests a contact problem with the unlock button in the fob.  If you're lucky it might just be a fouled-up button contact?)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!

Ive checked the fob and have a new one which does the same thing, seems electrical.  The door pin sometimes pops back up also when locked with the fob, sometimes its ok,

how much is a new lock module out of interest, would that cure it?

Same problem with my rear right door these days.

I locked all doors from main board on drivers door and sometimes rear left door immediately pops back up and unlocks. When it's locked it stays locked. It unlocks only right away after locking all doors. I've stripped down door cover harness and find out (+) and (-) wires bare naked. I've checked connector also for oxidation, it was ok. Thought I fixed this problem but few hours ago it popped back again (engine was always running when this problem occur). Although I must say that I forget to erase errors with VCDS. Not sure that was the problem, but I advise you to check these wires on pillar first.

If I may ask, can someone please advise is it normal to be able to unlock rear door when pooling door handle on other three doors? If I remember it correctly, it was not possible to unlock doors before (with these broken wires touching each other from time to time)?
