Towing bar on a VRS

Featured Replies

I need to tow a small car & trailer sometime in the next few weeks and contemplated renting a van or jeep.

Then the idea of having a tow bar fitted to my pre FL VRS tdi crossed my mind.

Is there much to getting it wired up?

There seems to be a couple on eBay or reasonable money.

Bite the bullet and fit a witter detachable around £300 fitted but it will keep the cars looks when detached and is extremely well made.

I have had them fitted to my last 3 Octavia's.

Try J N Installations for a quote they fit it at work or home.

Not sure how much different the pre is to the FL model but it wasn't that difficult to wire up use the dedicated wiring kit. The mechanics of the tow bar took me a morning to fit, taking my time as I hadn't done one before. I fitted the wiring into the boot at the same time.

Connecting the wiring from the boot to the fuse box and can bus was another couple of hours. The fiddly bits are the can bus wires. Read the instructions and it is all straight forward. This gave me fully working electrics. A quick visit to a local lad with VCDS and the module was coded that indicated when something was attached to the tow bar electrics, extended the alarm to this connection and disabled the reverse sensors too whilst attached.
