Serious squeal!

Featured Replies

Ok, I drive along and all you here is loads of squealing from what must be one of the wheels

Warped disc? Disc need changing? Bearing?

I just don't know

Was going to replace all disc and pads at the weekend anyhow and whilst I'm there do the bearings and give the calipers a lick of fresh skoda green paint too

Any how, could it be a wear indicator? I've read in different threads how some people think they do and some don't so ima tad confused by this. Haven't had chance to properly look as off yet

For the time being it'll have to do but I could do with a way of just getting rid of the noise temporarily.. it's embarrassing

Sounds like a small stone has got stuck between the disc and the protective shield. You need to jack the car up and see which one it is and try and flex the guard to get it out.

It happens when I go in a straight line..

When I turn corners, it goes and when the brakes are applied?

Could the still be the possibility of a stone?

Rather than spending time on the cosmetic stuff or spending on parts if not required best go service the brakes and see what is needed.

Pins sliding and copper slip on the back of the pads. ie brakes working as should be.  Replace parts as needed once you have inspected the brakes,

released trapped stone or anything else.

I understand what your saying, but as brakes are important, I may as well just get it done and not have to worry.

Besides, upon inspection the guard on rear driverside is hanging by a thread!

That could well be the cause of the noise then. The good news is that they are not compulsory: the bad news is that replacing it would require you to remove the stub axle (or perhaps not so bad, since you can cut it away and not need to replace it).

Very true! Suppose I'd better park my van and car down the road with eachother and get the old power tools out

At least look like I know what I'm doing haha

there was a previous post -couple of years back which saved me whilst on holiday     it was an Octi' but because of the design the stone had a place to sit( it was a gravel car park)  and was very loud a few yards in reverse completely cured it       thanks to whoever posted that one
