Hello,

 

I have a 2005 Fabia Mk I (estate) and have been experiencing increasingly troublesome electrical problems. The problems are also intermittent, often disappearing when the car has warmed up or coming and going. All of the electrical problems that it has seem to stop and start at the same time, which I guess means that there's an overall voltage drop.

• Air conditioning doesn't work when the car is started. It will often come on after 30-40 minutes of driving.
• Rear wiper same as the A/C.
• Front electric windows work when the car is started, but stop working shortly after. These will then also start with everything else.

Other electrical components (e.g. front wipers, radio, lights, rear demister) all work ok at the moment.

 

I don't really have the know-how, but some Googling has suggested that it might be an earth fault. Does this sound plausible? I was also wondering if I need to clean up the terminals on the battery cover.

Not sure. I bought it in January, I'll see if it's mentioned in the service history.

Your ideas are all possible; also check the load sense wires off the back of the alternator.

Check to see if your battery light illuminates with ignition on (engine not started).
