Drivers Footwell - Dip in floor - Is yours the same?

Cleaning out the car today, after removing the floormats, I noted that there appears to be a dip in the floor to the left hand side in the drivers footwell.  I'd never noticed it in the past, but the carpet appears to not quite fit the dip correctly and I've also noted that the rubber floor mat has developed a hole through it, in the same area as the dip in the floor.

Could any willing Mk2 owners check their floorwell for me and confirm, before I go through the annoying stage of lifting the carpets up to check underneath?
