coolant issues ....

Featured Replies

I own a 2005 Skoda octavia 1.6 ( 8v mpi ) BFQ engine code , with 160,000 Km

last year one coolant hose cracked while driving and lost all coolant, i pulled to the side maybe a minute or 2 later due to traffic. The car did not overheat at all but all coolant was gone. I had it towed , replaced the hose and i was told its good no issues. A month later 2 heater hoses cracked wide open while i was stopped at a light. Turned engine off , towed the car and replaced the hoses. Also replaced all other cooling hoses as a precaution and the radiator. I asked if a head gasket is the root of the problems and i was told no , but heat and age made them crack. i said ok and off i went. These happened last summer at 145.000 Km. Since then i have replaced thermostat housing and the thermostat itself  because it was leaking G12 coolant , a little later i noticed the oil cooler was leaking coolant from a hose and i had this replaced as well . I asked again , what are the chances that a head gasket has gone bad and i was told everything is good. At the last repair , they overfilled with g12 coolant the white reservoir , not a lot , but more than recommended and i was told to keep an eye on it. Since then ( 11,000 Km ago ) i have been keeping an eye at the levels of g12 weekly. The coolant level has dropped after 11.000 km to the point when the engine is cold , is at the middle of the MIN - MAX area but should coolant level drop over the period of 8 months and 11,000 km later or not ?
Also , when the engine is warmed up the coolant level is at a higher level than when the engine is cold. I was always under the impression that this is normal because g12 expands when it is hot but i was also told that this should not be happening. Your thoughts?
The car drives fine
Never overheats

never rattles in the mornings
no milky residue at the oil cap
no white smoke when i start the engine every morning
everything looks fine , the car behaves fine , has driven 11,000 like that with no issues

what are the chances i have a bad gasket ? What do you think ?

i dont want to replace something that does not need to be replaced

thanks for reading this so far :)
