dvd player format

Featured Replies

As above. DVD player has gone to where ever they go when they decide to lock up and been replaced by a new one ,with a USB input, so looking at downloading some stuff to keep SWIMBO happy. Tried a short download of one of her favourite programs as an experiment and it came down in MP4. However, although DVD player sees this it won't play it, so any idea of format needed ?

No way to know without model details.

Normally *. Avi / divx /HD divx.

Thinking about it, possibly best way is to chuck a DVD into PC and read format extension ,although I'd suspect it's .AVI since it's not a Blu ray bit of kit.

You checked on a PC to make sure it works??

Take a look at the actual coding, mp4 is a generic name, often you can change it to .avi (for example) and the file will work perfectly - on a player that refused to play it as a .mp4 !!

A standard DVD will give you a selection of .VOB files that each contain 1GB of the movie and an .IFO file that tells the player how to piece it all together. You'll need to convert ('rip') these to another format to play it from USB on your player. Which format will entirely depend on the make and model of your DVD player.

Buy what ever DVD player you fancy and stick a rpi (running OSMC) into the mix too, and control it via your TV remote control (as long as your TV supports CEC over HDMI).

Both play ok on PC using Media player. Got several extension changers, looks like it's time for a play .
