Car park 'Bump' damage!

Featured Replies

Someone reversed into my car this morning (in car park) and hit the bumper at the edge of the number plate, passenger side front end.

His - 55 plate Jag X type BK55 CNY 2.0d / no noticeable damage.

It has pushed the bumper back on mine only at this point, but this has pushed the bumper out at the front corner. It has not moved at the wheel arch.

Also the front lower corner of the headlight is now protruding a little. It is difficult to tell if this has been pushed out by the movement of the bumper, or the lower corner of the bonnet has been pushed in a little, or a bit of both.

I have the guys details and he has admitted fault and put it in writing.

It seems to drive fine and the lights all work ok.

Any thoughts on possible unseen damage caused and what you guys might do in this case.

It is a work vehicle and so I do not really want the hassle of involving the insurance companies. The guy says he will phone me later tonight after he has checked if he has 'protected' no claims.

(edit) his insurers have just contacted me admitting liability, but any advice still wanted.

I have asked about the insurance implications in the insurance bit and need to contact mine, I guess.

Get the wheel arch liner off and you'll probably find it has just become unclipped it certain areas and will just push back together. Unlikely to be any structural damage otherwise you would see wider gaps in the body panels around the wings etc

You say it's a work vehicle? In that case isn't it for your employer to deal with?

If it was my personally owned car I'd just make a claim directly from his insurance company.

Self Employed work vehicle with all my tools in etc, all organised for ease of use.

You say 'directly' or do you mean through your own insurance company????????????

That is why it is such a pain for a little bump, especially how it happened, and I am looking for a new contract for work at the moment and looking to upgrade the vehicle very soon also.

Speak directly to his insurance company and get them to provide a courtesy vehicle. It will be cheaper than if you use a claim she management company.
