Misted front windscreen

Featured Replies

For quite a while now the front windscreen of my 2012 1.0 Citigo SE mists up almost immediately even when it is not very cold outside. The only thing which clears it is to switch on the aircon at full blast - not great for fuel economy! Has anyone else had this problem and managed to solve it?

try replacing your pollen filter

I would run the air con to dry the air and have mist free windows, rather than worry about saving a teaspoon of petrol. And as above check the pollen filter.

Good shout, only something like £10? I replaced mine when it had its service this year and it looked rather sorry for itself, also get the spark plugs changed this year too

Thanks! Is the pollen filter easy to replace yourself, or is it a job best left to the mechanics?

Thanks for the advice, Kenny! Is the pollen filter easy to replace yourself, or is it a mechanics only job?

Mine fogs up quite easily. I just run the a/c the affects to mpg are negligible

This topic has been discussed (at length) in the past on here, and the VW Up! site. Lots of theories about why it happens and the things you can do to rectify the problem. Using air-con can get rid of the misting, but many have prevented it from appearing by using dessicant bags containing silica gel...placed on top of the dashboard when parked. They can be used over-and-over after "re-juvenation" in a warm place/microwave oven. If you go down this route, get decent-sized ones (500gm-plus)...smaller ones aren't up to the job!

Available online....here's an example......

They seem very useful!

One of these in the boot and one in the car helps lots with keeping the glass and the car dryer.

£1 in ASDA or other places.

Keeping your windows clean from inner side helps a lot too. For example this product seems to work and is easy to use:
