New Wiring Loom?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Have used this site a couple of times when I have had a problem and managed to sort myself out. Great place for info and tips. Now I have a little problem that I may have turned into a much bigger one. I ordered a new transmission reverse light sensor and all seemed well whilst fitting it ( having read how to on this site ). But in the process of fitting it I snapped the connecting plug off where it is wired. I do not have any length of wire remaining from the plug for me to reconnect it. The garage tells me I cant order the connector on its own and will need a new loom !!!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Lee

Connector with wires prefitted is readily available. Had same trouble myself just recently, mended on Saturday.

Will just get on a laptop and look up what I bought.

I bought this from ebay, it came with about 100mm of wire.  It didn't have the little rubber seals that seal round the wire insulation where they go into the back of the thing, so I used a length of adhesive heatshrink to seal up the back end (A bit of silicone sealant would probably do as well).  If you search that part number 1J0973702, you may be able to find versions that do have the little seals on the wires.

Something to be aware of is that if the insulation at the breakage point has been cracked for some time, the wires within the insulation will be corroded for a little way back up inside the insulation as you go back up the loom. You may have to strip away tape and keep cropping back affected wire(s) a few centimetres before you can find wire clean enough and coppery enough to solder to.  Crimp connections are an alternative if you haven't access to a soldering iron.
