Car shaking randomly- Skoda Fabia Estate 1.6 Auto

Featured Replies

I'd like to know your thoughts. Over the last 2 months the car has been shaking (jerking) at random. Initially it was only when the car was stationary, however soon after it started happening whether the car was stationary or not. Most of the time, however, the car would be just fine.

About a fortnight ago, the engine diagnostics light flashed for about 20 seconds, but then it disappeared. Over the course of the week, this happened a few times, each time it started flashing the car would be going through its jerky phase. However, since yesterday it has been on permanently (It did go off for a while and then flashed for a bit and became permanent again). Again, once in a while it would go into a jerky phase, but not all the time.

I've had the car for over a year now and previously it has given me no problems. It's been serviced in April. Any ideas what the issue could be.

Welcome to the site Mb3. It's the engine misfiring. May be a faulty plug or a coil pack on it's way out. Unless you are good at spannering, I'd take it in to the dealer right away for a check as you don't want to harm your catalytic converter. They will also check for fault codes to see what else if anything it might be.

Thank you. I'll take it over the weekend to have it checked out.

Thank you for your advice, I took it to the local specialist, he replaced the ignition coil and now the car is running perfectly...

It took two trips, the first time there was no sign of the shaking so it was difficult to diagnose however the second time it was diagnosed straight away

Mb, that's great! Thanks for posting back. It's helpful for us all to know what the problem was. Enjoy your car!
