Headlight Water Problems

Featured Replies

Hi All

I live in Devon and you may have seen it has been a little damp!

In the torrential rain on Sunday I got. DRL warning light. Bottom of the lamp had water droplets in it. It went away and the DRLs came back. I stuffed a couple of silica fell bags in the unit. There is now water both sides and I have the Right DRL off without a warning light. As soon as it is dry enough I plan to get a fan heater on the lights and take the covers off the back to give them a chance to dry. Is this a good idea?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Garnett

Both headlight units should be replaced under warranty - don't accept anything less.

They're prone to the odd bit of condensation, but water drops are another matter.

I'm sure I've seen a few other threads of failing LED DRL's on the bi-xenon headlights. It was a fairly common issue on the early builds.

Hi All

The local dealer has just taken a look at my headlights. I had a front end bash last summer. They tell me that the national crash repair company has not sealed the lights correctly so it is their problem.

I have given them a call and am waiting for a response.

3 weeks ago I changed the plastic radiator cover as I had a pheasant go through it. Rather than change the entire bumper, I purchased one on eBay and swapped it over. I know that the lights weren't disturbed as it just lifts off, but I suspect that it will be raised as an issue.

At the moment the DRL has come back to life most of the time. I gave it two hours with the hair dryer! It comes on as normal when I start the car. Sometimes it is fine. sometimes not. Most often it flickers and gives me the DRL alert.

Am I looking at a complete headlight change to resolve this or is there a starter / ballast that I should change? At least I know how to take the bumper off to get to the light now!

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Does anyone know where I can find a part number for my RH Headlight unit? Mine is an L&K. Is it the same as the one used on a VRS?

Thanks

I had similar with one of my headlights, water ingress just on one headlight, after a run, then warning light and intermittent led drl. Dried it out and was fine for a couple of days, then failed completely. Headlight has stayed dry ever since.

Visited dealer today and led unit to be replaced under warranty, but they say headlights are okay. Funny, not a hint of moisture in them since drying them. I did notice that one of the cover caps wasn't very tight on the back of the light, when I first investigated though. They could only have been disturbed once, when the bumper had to come off for the dealer to replace a leaking water pump.

Maybe these caps need checking from time to time, to make sure they are sealing okay?
