Octavia 3 Help

Featured Replies

hello!

I have a problem with Octavia 3 2.0TDI DSG. 160000km

The problem is a strange sound.

There is no sound when the engine is cold, even when it is hot. The sound occurs when the oil is cooled to 50 ° C .. When the oil is heated to 70 degrees the sound disappears. As long as the oil does not cool at 50 degrees no sound.

What is the problem?

Realy it could be anything, are you refering to the knocking sound, not the engine. DMF?. If you drive in 1st is the power delivery smooth?. Does the knocking get louder.

Sound disappears immediately when i add a little gas. what is DMF?

No sound when the car is Cold, even when the engine temperature of over 70 degrees. If I leave the car to stand to cool to 50 degrees and then the sound is again present.

Is it possible that the main shaft is broken?

nobody?

Realy it could be anything, and im thinking it not DMF it it goes away, i would get it looked at for the simple reason its dificult to convey with a video. I think with 100k on the clock its probably a typical diesel sound, they do get more rattaly with age, things on the engine do wear bushes, mounts, internals etc.

All diesel engine knock when cold, all the ones i have owened anyway.

What is DMF?

DMF = Dual Mass Flywheel

DMF noises can go away mind. I have had three cars with failing DMF's and after pressing the clutch a few times, the noise went away.

You can usually tell by pressing the clutch slightly and feel it in the pedal.

Mine sounds similar and this (random) knocking noise is not present with completely cold or warmed up engine.

2.0 TDI + DSG at 150.000 km

I had 2 VW Golfs (mk4 and mk5) with failed DMF and this noise is very similar...
