Draining the washer bottle

Featured Replies

Ran out of screen wash on Saturday so nipped into my local Halfords and all they had was that green stuff that goes to -20.

Since using it it keeps leaving green stain marks on my windows so want to get rid.

Is there a plug you just undo so it pours out or will I need to sit for half an hour with the washer jets on?

No such luck there, just be very generous when using it!

Edit:- if you really really want to get rid of it quickly, maybe a bit of overkill, but stick a flexible pipe into it and suck/pump it out?

Or turn on the ignition and use the screen washer function and let the car take the strain, and then wash the car and the ground.

Take a few screws out the wheel arch and pop the pump off (it slides up) and it will drain out.

I was sort of guessing that getting hands dirty/cold was not part of the OP's plan!  It is thawing a bit up here though.

Haha I don't mind getting my hands dirty, is it behind this?

Do you have a piece of pipe & string and cloth?

Feed the string through the pipe, tie a bit of cloth on the string, dip in the washer bottle, and pull the cloth through the pipe.

Just how those that steal fuel in your area do it only with a bigger pipe.

It hardly takes 30 minutes to hold the washer on the stalk to empty the bottle.

You will empty the bottle in less than 5 minutes using the washer. Did you dilute this green stuff correctly? Read the instructions on the bottle, do you really need -20C protection? If not then just add water to the correct proportion (might involve a bit of guess work in your case), that would probably get rid of the staining problem.

Yeah I followed the instructions and I didn't need it but it was the only thing Halfords had when I went in as I could hardly see out the screen so didn't want to drive about.

Managed to drain it via the washers and back to my good old morrisons stuff.

It's worth popping into a TPS if there's one close as genuine Quantum Fan Jet washer fluid is less than £5 for 5 litres of concentrate.

Are you sure thats concentrate?

Yeah, I bought some from vw last week.
