Road noise

Featured Replies

I know that cos the vRS Fabia has wide tyres, that road noise is louder than normal, but I find that even in the rain there is quite a lot of noise inside the car. Especially around the arches, not something I am used to. Only a little criticism. I'll bet there's a mod that sorts this as well. :)

More soundproofing material is the only such mod I can think of....

Steve, do you know that you have exceeded your private message store ? I was going to say cheers, well I now have :D

Briskoda kindly emailed to tell me, and that you had tried to send one! I've just PM'ed you back, to let you know you can try again, if you like

The road noise in my Fabia on standard 205 Bridgestones is far more instrusive than the road noise in my Golf on 225 Goodyear F1's, Dunlop SP9000's or Uniroyal Rainsports!

I know the Golf will have more sound proofing but I still find the noise in the Fabia incredibly loud. I can't wait until it's time to change the tyres to see if that makes any difference.

Changing tyre compounds will make a difference, but the main problem is the Fabia is built to a price and as such doesn't have the sound proofing of the Polo/Ibiza. Walkie posted a question about soundproofing yesterday in the ICE section so maybe worth having a read of what people recommended :D

Do you think that the 205 Bridgestones are a noisy tyre then ? I have not used them before so can't comment.

Yep, quite a hard compound I believe :D I think it's blackcircles.com or mytyres who have a check list against each tyre rating various aspects of it. I believe the Toyo's/Goodyears are quieter, but that should confirm it....

The standard vRS tyres (cant remember the makes) where a lot noisier than my current tyres which are Uniroyal Rainsport. I know you can get some sound deading if you wish, costs about £150 IIRC but the company which does it lines the wheel arches, firewall, boot liner and under carpets I think, should quieten things down a bit. You can also buy an engine sound deadener from the Ibiza TDI but it fits the vRS the exact same. This will obviously only deaden the diesel clatter.

Very helpful, cheers. :)

That's one thing I can say in favour of my OEM Michelin Primacys - did think they were quiet at motorway speeds. Pity they weren't that good at much else!

Have you got a part number and price for the Ibiza sound deadning for the engine bay please?

Steve

Just soundproof the car - it's worthwhile, not cheap but it makes the noise a lot more muted :)

Road noise is still pretty noticeable anyway :(

Hi

I have driven two Fabia vRS. One was on Toyo T1-R and the other on Continental Sport Contact II. The Toyo shod car was much quieter.

Wardy. Here's a link to the post about the "engine sound proofing mod", I know it costs
