Clutch

Featured Replies

My clutch slips in fourth gear by about 500rpm then catches again.only happens if I.floor it.been doing this 6 months ,is it on its way out?wats labour charges for new one

Last year my son paid £260 for a new VAG clutch supplied and fitted at my local independent.

Car drives like new. Clutch is feather light. More than happy.

Hope this gives you a benchmark to work from.

That is a very good price for clutch and fitting. I paid £150 mates rates just for labour to change the clutch and flywheel.

To the OP: how many miles are you on since the last clutch change, if it has had a change that is. I would change both clutch and flywheel to save the hassle of changing it again later down the line. Are you still on standard power?

its on 128,000 miles have a history with it no slip for clutch iv done 30,000 miles in it.has a remap running 160 bhp

Then I would be changing the clutch and flywheel, sounds like a conservative map, I trust it's not a spikey 'kick in the face all of a sudden' map? If so then a standard replacement should be fine.

the remap is sort of flat then a big serge of power.its a super chips one done years ago .and thats the poiint the clutch slips. Can take it easy i suppose until it gets bad.but it as you know the powers addictive

"Sort of flat then a bug surge"... :( no wonder your clutch is on it's way out. All about that nice smooth torque curve! Unless you're running some bulletproof smf and paddle clutch :p

Totally up to you I suppose. A standard kit will be cheaper than an up rated replacement, but may fail again in 40/50k miles. Or buy an uprated clutch and it should outlive the car.
