Steering noise

Featured Replies

Hi I'm having a issue with my fabia Monte Carlo 1.6tdi. The steering has lately been quite noisy. The noise I'm getting is a loud whoooing/groaning when moving left or right with moderate steering lock at low speeds. The noise is quite audible with the window down ,I've checked the power steering fluid level and that's fine.

I also turned the car lock to lock when not moving and there is no noise.

Any commen know issues?

Thanks

There were issues and a TPI and parts getting replaced under Warranty on some vehicles.

Someone will be along with the Details, but best check with a friendly knowledgeable Skoda Main Dealership Service Manager.

Thanks for the info my monte is a 2011 so don't think it will be under warranty anymore.

Being under Manufacturers Warranty is really not an issue if there were Manufacturing Faults of Components, especially like steering components.

I do not know the details on the TPI, but someone that had parts replaced will.

The vehicles that may be involved in 'not fit for purpose components be used'.

I have checked the website you supplied and it said there is no outstanding recalls

That is good, because there were Wiring Loom issues as well.

As to the steering have you done a search on here to see the issues others had.?

I will give it a try.

EDIT.

Bumped 1 thread for you, there are others if you use Search.

I've searched numerous times, a lot of the threads are similar but not exactly the symptoms I have

Best have a mechanic check it then if you are not finding the cause.

Ask a skoda dealer to check. Steering rod problem is very common on mk2 FL fabias. They know its a common problem and its quickly checked by pulling the boots back and inspecting if the grease is discoloured.

Ours had 3 sets changed in the course of a year! (However no warranty is given on warranty repairs either!)

I have done the tie arms about a year ago ,they may be faulty but I bought non genuine ones at the time.

Abit more info on the noise it's is still at moderate steering lock only at slow speeds I.e 20 mph or there abouts

The noise is only present when turning when accelerating aswell , if I turn without accelerating the noise is not there.

I'd check ball joints and bearings in front wheels.

Its the inboard (rack) end of the steering rod, not the tie rod ends that are the problem. Symptoms sound very much as if you have this problem. Ask skoda for their opinion. Its quick and doesnt cost you anything for a tech to check.

It's only noisy when warm as well.

So that's going to be a new steering rack then?

Thanks for the info

Yeah, doesn't sound like the common problem with the track rods. Just had my track rods replaced. It made a creaking grinding noise when turning steering in one direction. Did it at parking speed and when stationary.
