octavia vrs - rear fog lights question 16 mrk3 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi,

This might be a silly question but had a look today and only the drivers side rear fog seemed to be working. The car is only a few months old and was wondering if this is coded this way( some cars have only one) just not sure if it's a blown bulb on passenger side or it is intentionally one side that lights up.

It's coded that way, but can be changed with VCDS, VCP, etc. to enable the left hand rear fog light.

The details are in the sticky thread at the top of the Octavia III Forum.

Thanks Dave

you can activate it using obdeleven as well - it is one of the more straightforward ones to do

It's one of those stupid EU laws that we'll all soon thankfully be rid of.

Not true - many cars have 2 rear fog lights (even in the VAG Group), it's just stupid programming in the Skoda factory.

It used to be said that it was to avoid confusion with brake lights - but that's not true either since a third central brake light has been compulsory for over 20 years.

Also seems an ideal opportunity for problems on the Continent! Driving in rural France with a fog light on the nearside. Bored French Policeman looking for something to do..

It's a "Feature".

That's what we used to call anything that anyone didn't like within our systems at work.

An annoyance in a 21st century vehicle. One that I also hope to get fixed by a handy Andy with one of these clever black boxes.

Years ago on a Volvo V70 I was able to solder a missing bridge on the LH lamp circuit board to give me a pair of fog lamps instead of one.

I'm amazed what VAG are doing with lamps these days, e.g. front main beam lamp acts as side light, DRL and main beam.

Clever stuff.

It doesn't cause confusion with brake lights, it just makes the brake lights harder to see. And if you're going to rely on just the centre light then why bother with the other two?

I wonder why lighthouses weren't built in pairs...
