Coil (glow plug system) warning light flashing

Featured Replies

We were returning home last night (pretty cold outside) and when I had accelerated past a lorry on the dual carriageway, the coil shaped warning light flashed on and off for about five minutes. It went out before we got home, and I didn't notice any loss of power from the engine, although the rest of the journey was in 30/40 limits.

Does this usually mean the glow plugs are on the way out? I cannopt remember changing them since I bought the car in 2012. I used to change spark plugs in my Alfa every two years.

Could be that one of the glow plugs is starting to break down. Probley worth while poping down or finding some one with a diagnostic kit to find out.

Almost certainly nothing to do with the glow plugs. The light doubles as a general warning light. A scan for fault codes will tell you what the problem was.

Yeah when it flashes it's something else.

Maybe a faulty brake peddle switch, I forget the common one.

Worth getting the car scanned though.

Had a good look around. All lights are working fine, the car starts OK and runs OK. The original flashing warning light happened a minute after giving it the beans for the overtaking - changed down to 4th, then really went for it. As I said before there wasn't any noticeable power loss though. I am due to have it serviced next week, so will ask the guy to plug it in and see if any errors show up.

hi
