Sat Nav Installation

Featured Replies

Sure I found a thread relating to Sat Nav retrofit in the MK 1 vRS but damned if I can find it now ! I've got a 2005 Superb double din MFD unit and antenna. Is it a case of just removing the small shelf and voisla it slides in ? I'm sure the the thread I read mentioned cutting something the back ? Is any coding required with VCDS post install ?

Cheers

Andy

I retrofitted mine earlier this year, at first I didn't do anything to the mount, however it was difficult to get the unit to sit flush & fully locked into the mount, due to the wiring loom getting stuck so I did get the dremel out and chopped the rear of the mount

There is coding for the nav unit, but chances are it will be coded correctly anyway, only thing would be if the Superb it came from had the full maxidot in the speedo, things like the wheel diameter can be done via the nav unit itself without using VCDS, I've also just fitted the dynamic nav update receiver and that did need coding in via VCDS

What Nav unit did you fit Nige ? The one have is basic to say the least, same as the RNS-D I had in my 03 RS6. Is maxi dot an option on the MK 1 ?

This is mine

On mine at the moment I've got a half maxidot ?

I've now got a speedo unit from a Superb with the full maxidot waiting to be fitted, there is a wire for the headlight failure that will need moving but I'm pretty sure it will all work, then you can have the Nav turn instructions come up on that screen :)

I've found the "Quick Start Guide" colour sat nav user guide.pdf  Somewhere I have the full manual ?? I'll keep searching for it :)

Got my antenna, ordered a bloody Fakra !! ???? Now ordered an SMB, installation will have to wait !! Think I'm gonna have to chop the back of the mount also !

So , antenna arrived and wrong again !! Plus I've entered the code wrong and it says "safe" and unit locked ! How do I get past this ? Which connector is the GPS antenna mount ? I was thinking the one at the bottom next to the aerial but I'm now thinking the one at top r/h ? Can someone tell me the antenna i need ?

The GPS is the top right behind the black plastic safety catch, this is the one I bought before I got the combined roof aerial http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINI-GPS-Antenna-Aerial-3M-Female-SMB-right-angle-connector-for-Magelian-Trimble-/290714618765?hash=item43aff10b8d

If it's showing "SAFE" just leave it switched ON and after a while (upto 1hr! ) it should then let you re-enter the correct code

Here's some info on the coding options Octy SatNav Info.doc

So , waited a hour and was able to enter the code. Finally got a correct antenna. Slight modification required to stereo cage I.e. Removing the rear of it and it's all tickety boo. Only thing i need now is a new knob as the rubber cover is missing. Can these be sourced ?

I've got a spare unit that won't read any discs so if you PM your address I'll send you the knob from it :)
