Nearly, Have my part C/Mod 7 in a few Weeks. Started Driver Training last April, Done all my Driving Hours but just waiting for a DTM to assess me.

I was a Train Guard for 2 Years previous with Northern also :)

I sometimes use Arriva Trains Wales, I go from Man Pic to Conwy occasionally....I like Real Ale, I also like Rail Travel so get about on my days off. Another of my less known hobbies. Just as well I enjoy it really Driving them for a living.

30/1/17...

Well sadly I simply have not been getting on with the Revo Intake and have no plans to take the car any further power wise either so today I refitted the factory Air-box Assembly.

You live and learn, I have never had an Open Intake fitted on a TFSI before and I just wish I would have ran the car with the OEM Set-up for a bit longer to be honest.

Anyway the car is now a pleasure to drive again, Nice and quiet, No whooshing or Darth Vader noises LOL. Actually feels a bit more responsive too in the lower RPM's.

I opted for the Volkswagen Racingline Panel Filter which is made by ITG, I had really good results with this Filter on my old Golf Edition 30 and was very happy with the quality. Plus it will flow a little more than the OEM Paper Filter which will help support the Stage 1 Map.

OEM Airbox with Paper Filter...

Airbox and all Intake Pipework deep cleaned...

VWR Panel Filter, This was left to stand on some Blue Roll/Tissue first to remove any excess Oil...

Back to OEM! Gave the Engine bay a bit of a Detail, Engine Cover dressed with Aerospace 303...

2/2/17...End of Project!

Well the seed has been well and truly planted now!

I have decided it is time for a break from it all, Possibly go abroad for a few weeks, Do some other things maybe get my garage built, Buy a cheap daily driver to try and rekindle some enthusiasm.

In the past Year I have done 4 x Cars now....Golf R Manual, Civic Type R, Edition 30 and now this Golf R.

All I have enjoyed and all I have been able to take to a fantastic level both mechanically and cosmetically!

Most of the fun for me is in the searching for a car and then with my OCD getting it how I want it, I did more on this car in 1 Month than most do in a Year! Made some serious progress but without cutting any corners and as said the car is now pretty much perfect. Maybe that is my problem, I have nothing to do?

Will be advertising the Golf in another Month or so.

Hopefully it will stay in the community and go to a fellow enthusiast.

Massive thanks to all those who have contributed to the thread and enjoyed the thread also, Makes all the effort worthwhile.

Kind Regards

Simon (Bonelorry)

What a shame....but not a shock! :D

Instead of buying cars for yourslef.. why don't you use your skils and OCD level to maybe buy cars like this, work your magic and then flip them over for a profit?

Heck, you seem to enjoy what you do as a hobby, so why not try and make a little money out of it?

The above makes sense really - as what you have there is a perfect all-rounder that you could easily enjoy for several years.

But I get that this isn't necessarily where your enjoyment of a car lies

In your position, I think I'd have the R for high days and holidays and probably another CTR for where you need to leave it in car parks!

You have pretty much answered the question, I get enjoyment out of what I do because it is my hobby and is done in my spare time. If you put any sort of financial implication and profit into the equation it becomes a business and then with that comes pressure and time constraints. All off the latter I do not want and is another reason that although I get asked on a regular basis to do other peoples cars I decline to do them!

I do hear what you are saying though :) and appreciate that you feel I could make a decent go of it.

Yes mate, Its pretty much the perfect all-rounder and should really be all the car I could ever ask for and never want to sell on but to answer the second part of your post...

Just got back from a Weekend away in North Wales, Fantastic drive over there and back, Some great driving roads too....I took my other half's Fiesta! Left the Golf at home :D

Got to admit though, I am actually looking forward to driving it tomorrow when I go back to work as it has not turned a wheel since last Tuesday! I Detailed it last Wednesday and it still looks awesome sat under the car port, I have even had the neighbour parking his car behind it all Weekend.

I think even if money was no object I would never settle with a car or any number of cars, Just how I am. MENTAL!

I hear what you are saying about buying a Second car, However I could only ever justify it if the cars both equalled a similar amount to what I have tied up in the Golf R. Leaving the Golf R on the drive and driving an EP3 or the likes as a daily would put me well into the £20K+ bracket with the majority being tied up in the Golf R which would be sat doing nothing but depreciating.

I would rather sell it, Buy something like a Fabia VRS TDI/Octavia VRS TDI etc and then a Fully Stripped out MK5 Golf Edition 30 with a Fast Road Set-Up and 350BHP. Both cars would cost less than what I have tied up in the Golf R but would cover all bases. An economical but still fairly quick daily, A totally impractical and Noisy but very fast toy.

Just batting ideas about and thinking out loud with that last suggestion. We shall see, For now I do feel like just buying another Fabia VRS as a daily and nothing else and having a bit of a break.

Im sure this car appeared on my facebook the other day as a post from JJB motors in York who were very impressed with it after carrying out some work on it,im sure there cant be another one the same?

Most definitely not my car, I know who's car it is and not long after I fitted the wheels on mine his car then appeared with the exact same ones fitted. It is an imitation ;)

Mine has the Full Volkswagen Racing Spring and Damper kit fitted, His has just had some Lowering Springs Fitted. He is a fellow member on VWROC, Without blowing my own trumpet its not as tidy as my car ;)

Cheers, Kev. Yes really pleased with myself, Can relax a little now.

Did my first Solo trip yesterday Consolidating my Core Route Class 158, No problems.

As for the car, Yes it is a bit of a shame. It is simply getting used for commuting in at the moment so it is totally wasted, I am not really enjoying it anymore but now I have passed my assessment I can look into selling it.

I like MK6 GTD's but will probably end up with a MK5 GT Sport TDI to keep the costs down, Then I can look into getting a second car as a Project/Weekend Toy.

My first trip on my own I had to pass a signal at danger that couldn't be cleared due to an earlier SPAD,was low adhesion season uphill from the signal so was struggling to get going.

Anyway the next signal was around a bend with limited sighting, got distracted by the low adhesion and forgot the signaller saying 'obey all other signals'!

Anyway I tripped the TPS overspeeds on approach! Before the train stopped the signal went to green, arse :o

Not a good first trip! :)

I hope no-one minds me repeating this pictures - that looks awesome! In my view, you've lowered that to the perfect height! Lovely work. From the thread, would I be right in thinking at least one of the specialists you used is based in Sheffield? I'd be interested to hear of an independent VAG specialist you were happy with.

Whilst my car is in no way up to this (and never will be cosmetically, I'm not going to pretend otherwise!) I would like to have a high quality alternative to main dealer...and a place that at least takes enough care to not drag wheels over my bumper on a simple wheel swap :speechless: - which admittedly wasn't the main dealer but still.

This thread makes me want a Golf again :)

It also sounds like there's a reasonable chance you'll end up driving the train I frequently catch to work too...

No worries, Glad you approve of the Golf :)

I do most of work myself if I can, I have used Statller Power Developments in Sheffield for the DSG/Haldex/Brake Fluid Change, Very professional VAG independent who also does alot of work on Porsche and other high performance German Cars. Certainly know their stuff!

Which Train would that be then that you commute on?

Thanks for the info - I'll check them out. I'd like to do some more myself now I actually have a drive but there's some stuff I'd not touch!

The only show I would have considered putting the Golf in would have been the Elsecar Show but sadly it is no longer held at Elsecar Heritage Centre and is now held at Doncaster Racecourse which is a complete Chav-Fest so I refuse to take my car or even attend the event anymore.

I do drive that line Sheffield-Leeds Via Barnsley, I do not drive the Sheffield-Nottingham services.

4/3/17...

Well if all goes to plan this time next Week the Golf should be out of my ownership, Just out of curiosity I decided to give the Dealership in Chester a call who I sold my last Golf R to in 2016 and ask what they would give me for it on a purchase only basis. Very happy to confirm that the price agreed was the exact amount I paid for it and with the Standard 18" Talldega's fitted!

I could advertise the car privately and probably get a bit more for it but this saves me the hassle of any potential tyre kickers coming round, However my last message from the Dealership a few days back said that I need to contact him on Wednesday to ensure he has the space in his showroom and the funding to purchase the Golf so as said if all goes to plan...

If not then I will be making an advert and putting the car up for sale, I would like to hope I wouldn't have any issues selling it. We shall see what the next Week brings.

On another note...

I pick up my new daily driver today!

I don't know how I manage to find them but I went to view Shadophax's 2005 Skoda Fabia VRS TDI yesterday and needless to say I tore the his arm off.

: Mk1 Skoda Fabia VRS TDI

: Lemon Yellow

: 2 Owners from new, Last owner has had the car 8 Years and is a Briskoda Member/Enthusiast

: 68K Miles

: Factory Zenon's, Sunroof, Cruise Control, CD Changer

: Totally standard apart from Genuine Mudflaps fitted all-round

: FSH, Been done every 6-10K Miles, Just Serviced and MOT'd a few Weeks ago at D.M Keiths Skoda Main Dealer, No advisories on Service or MOT. On its 3rd Timing Belt as it has been done every 4 Years. Gearbox Oil has been changed. Just had Genuine Rear Brake Calipers, Recent Brake Discs and Pads fitted all round. Really well maintained car.

Car is in very good condition even to my standards, Been garaged everyday for the past 8 Years, Front seats have Covers fitted to keep them looking A1, It has some tailor made floor mats fitted and the original VRS items are like brand new and not fitted, Rear seats never used, Door cards have all been removed and the Door Panels have been Sealed properly (Common Fabia Problem) 2 x Sets of wheels are coming with it....A powder coated set of Steels with Winter Tyres and the original Fabia VRS Alloys fitted with nearly new Hankook V12's.

Looking forward to picking it up in a few hours!

As much as I enjoyed owning my Fabia the step up in quality to the mk6 Golf is massive, just hope you can cope with such a big downgrade :)

I have owned a couple of Fabia VRS's in the past so know exactly what to expect from it, Know what you mean they are in totally different leagues but then then I could have 5 Mint Fabia VRS's for the price of the Golf R so it is all relative.

I am actually looking forward to getting the Fabia on the road, It will do exactly what I want it to do as a daily driver.

I can foresee something else as a second car/weekend toy getting purchased at some point soon as well as the Fabia.

10/3/17...

Well I have just given the car its last clean in my ownership, I have removed the Pro Race 1.2's and it is sitting on its original 18" Talladega's.

The original trader which was Revitupuk has left me dangling on a string for the past 2 Weeks so I politely told them they are not having the car, Got in touch with another Performance Car Specialist who I have previously dealt with in 2015 when I purchased an Edition 30 from them and they have made me a reasonable offer for the car on the standard wheels so it is going to them.

To be honest I would always prefer to advertise the car and it go to a fellow enthusiast and I could have easily made another £500-£1000 on selling the car privately but with how many Golf R's are currently getting stolen I did not want to advertise the car nationally and have people coming around to the house especially considering the amount of cash that is involved. Just didn't want the hassle so just took the easy option.

I have been quite lucky that the last 2 cars I have sold both went without even advertising them to fellow enthusiasts.

Will keep on posting with any developments on the little Daffodil Daily.

Thanks again for everyones input on the thread, Appreciated as always!

Regards Simon
