Help - Spanner problem.....

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 Octavia VRS DSG.

Problem I encountered today was a strange one....

Went to the shop, car was fine, went to restart the car and the spanner was alternating between that and P. The lights on the car were on, and couldn't turn them off. I couldn't take the key out as the car didn't register it was in park?

Noticed the lights on the gearbox weren't illuminated. Got a mate to connect his battery to mine to see if that was the problem no such luck.

Another mate came out the a fault reader and it wouldn't let it read the ECU.

He was checking the fuses in engine bay and when he hit the lid back on I noticed the gearbox light up. Car then started fine.

Just gone back out to check to see the car would start, same thing happened again until I gave the fuse box lid a whack!

All fuses seem ok, the gear box was serviced about a year or so ago.

Is it a fuse problem? Anyone come across this before? Have searched the forum and google and can't find anything like it!

Cheers

Bad earth or corrosion. Check and clean the earths around the fuse box. Clean the battery posts and leads. Whilst doing this make sure the leads are in good condition.

If you have a fibre glass pencil you can clean the terminals up inside the fuse box and a clean green scouring pad will remove and corrosion from the fuses.
