Bit the bullet and bought a Xtrons headunit to upgrade my swing unit!

went for this model and added a DAB+ antenna

Total price with 15% discount was £246! seems pretty reasonable to be fair. i know there are mixed feelings about cheaper headunits and a lot of people prefer to stick with skoda units like columbus ect but bang for buck i thought i would take a chance.

 

This unit has no CD/DVD drive so less moving parts to go wrong & i can't remember the last time i used a disc in a car so shouldn't be a problem.

 

Xtrons forum support seems to be really good and replied to all my questions quickly.

 

Ive also ordered a wifi OBD plug so i can monitor in realtime the engine on my glorious HD screen!

FYI anyone who is looking to order one.. it was ordered today, shipped today and being delivered tomorrow! 

I'll be interested to see how you get on with this. I'm looking at various options for my Superb.

How did you get on?

Sooo.. its partially in and all i can say is WOW.. what a unit for the money! Install was simple, the longest part was routing the GPS, USB and DAB+ wires through the dash. I wanted one of the USB ports in the top glovebox for easy access and the other has the DAB tuner plugged in and tucked away behind the unit.

I ran out of daylight so for the minute the GPS and DAB antenna's are behind the top glovebox. They do work there but not the best.. i took a few pictures but as i said it was getting dark quickly by the time i got round to doing the install!

Quick review 

Quick question, might be covered in your video but struggling with signal to watch!! What does maxidot say when your have the DAB on? I've noticed that on most of the android units if you are using FM it doesn't tell you what station it is on either the unit or maxidot just the frequency. Is this the same? On DAB does it actually give you the station name in maxidot?

hmmmm not looked. i will have a look for ya... ive also just realised ive knocked whatever is attached to the back of the hot/cold knob and ive only got hot air now :( looks like i have to pull it all apart again!

Been out in the cold just for you chris!   and the answer is...... No... nothing while on DAB although the stalk buttons still change stations. My theory behind this is, the DAB+ add on is a stand alone usb device using an app on the radio to access it therefore there is prob nothing being sent to the CanBus module... i could be wrong tho

Just in case anyone does the same and knocks the drive cable of the climatic... check what end has come off before taking the dash apart... mine was at the bottom and i managed to get my fat arm up into the dash to clip it back on :thumbup:   after taking my dash apart :(

spot on! DAB signal can be a bit patchy and I have however found one small issue... if you are listening to DAB and you back out of the DAB screen and dont close the app so its playing in the background the sound breaks up and stutters.. Xtrons have been really helpful and provided me with a software update that should solve it but i haven't had a chance to try it yet (been sorting a misfire prob first) 

when i get a chance to do it i will provide feedback :thumbup:

This unit looks great, one question, i have got bluetooth fitted to my fabia vrs which comes up on maxi dot display etc does the standard bluetooth still work with this unit?? And also i have rear parking sensors fitted with a display on my swing radio would that still function on the new unit?

Parking sensors will come up (mine do) but the Bluetooth won't come up with the maxidot I'm afraid.

Not sure as it has a built in one which works just fine from my experience.

Hi I'm actually also interested in this system, but I would like to ask you some things. 

Do you have TPMS installed in your car and if yes, does it work with this system without the accesory they provide for it? And how about the stuf it can read from the CanBUS? How much can it read from it without having to connect it to the OBD2?

Sorry.. only just seen this!

The TPMS is part of my headunit but it does require extra kit to work. 

With regards to what it can read from the CanBUS im not sure what your wanting to know?? it does have a Vehicle App included that shows Fuel level, battery voltage, seatbelt status, rpm, any doors that are open.. prob more stuff but can't think.
