Short in Rear light cluster

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm sorry if this is a silly question but I'm having an issue with the rear light cluster on my '09 Octavia ( facelifted model ). I have put it through the NCT ( Irish MOT ) twice now and am having an issue with the offside rear driving light ( excuse my non tech language - the rear light that lights when the headlights are on ) lighting dimly when the brakes are applied. The brake light itself comes on and goes off fine. I guess its some sort of a short or frayed wire. Has anyone come across this before? I have to get the car retested before Friday!

Any help/advice welcome....

That sounds like a cross short or a bad earth connected to that cluster.

The bad earth is easier to check, since it's probably a loose connector or some dirt under the tag.

Unfortunately, if you don't also get funnies with that corner's indicator, the cross short is more likely, and the easiest course may be to try a new stop/tail (21/5W) bulb.
