Good all-year tyres needed...

Featured Replies

Need two new front tyres and looking for something I can leave on all year (having separate summer and winter tyres is beyond my budget).

I realise that going for an "all-rounder" tyre rather than specific summer/winter won't be as good as those specifically designed for each, but has anyone got any experience of ones they've had on all year and are happy with?

Given that I live in Manchester, I guess having something that handles well in the wet should be a priority!  :D

I was looking at Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance as they seem a decent performer for a reasonable price...although I believe they're "officially" classified as a winter tyre?

Efficientgrips are not at all wintery. Good All season types would be Nokian Weatherproofs, Vredestein Quadracs, Goodyear Vector 4Season 2s and Michelin Crossclimates.

we have maxxis AP2s on the abarth, and are very happy with the performance, summer winter and wet.

Is the winter/summer tire is better than other types which runs all year? On which part? I may replace the tires for my car too.

No idea; here in the UK it can be borderline or actually too warm for Winter tyres for 48 to 50 weeks of the year.

You need an all-season Tyre as suggested. I run Vredestein Quatrac on my car (And the SWMBO's i20) and am pleased with them. I've covered about 14,000 miles on them and the fronts are on 5.5mm and the rears are on 7mm so will get about 30k on the fronts before I need to change them. I've not had chance to try them on snow or ice as it's been mild since they were fitted. Wet and dry performance are good enough although they are a compromise in the summer over a genuine summer Tyre as there is a bit of flex in them which you notice in more enthusiastic cornering.

Plenty of people rave about Michelin Cross Climate, I will probably try them next.

Uniroyal Rainsport 3!

Ears.co.uk should be your cheapest price posted to your door!

I've had them on my current and previous Skoda. Great tyre

Rainsports are not all-seasons mind you, just very good in the wet.

Had the Goodyear Vector 4 seasons on the Scout, an SLK230 and the wife's Auris - really impressed with them

On the basis of "recommend what you own..." Michelin Cross Climates would get my vote, I've been running a set for the last year (22k miles) and still have around 4mm of tread left on the fronts and 5mm on the rears.  When these are worn out I'll be replacing with another set without any hesitation.

There's a review and feedback thread on these that I started in this section of the forum :-)
