Snow Chains

I have just swapped my old Omega for a new Superb Elegance - great car BUT - the manual says with 7J wheels and 225/45R17 tyres snow chains can not be fitted. As I'm driving to the Alps this winter this is a major problem! Any suggestions?

It said the same in my Audi manual for same tyres/wheel size.

The Audi dealer just quoted the company line saying there was not enough clearance to suspension, and snow wheels and tyres was the only option...

I approached someone like snowchains.co.uk / roofbox.co.uk (its 3 years ago now!) and they sent me an application guide. If you go for one of the premium (more expensive) slim-fit snow chains then they should fit - just in case the Police are watching and its snowing when you are in France. This will be loads cheaper than new wheels and tyres or buying a 4x4 Octavia instead ;)

I got Zenith 18" alloys c/w conti tyres (225/40/R18) on my Octy Vrs TDI Hatch and i need snowchains for them.

Any manufacturer recommendations please?

I don't think it a good idea to attempt driving in snow bound conditions without snowchains on cumbrian B roads this winter,do you?
