Better pads and fluid plus a quick update

Featured Replies

Not been on here in a while since I've been busy with work so time for a quick update on my vrs (which seems to be getting rarer and rarer from the posts I've seen from others recently)..

I did my first track day a couple of weeks ago at Snetterton and absolutely loved it. The suspension mods I've had done previously (eibach springs and h&r RARB) helped alot and handling wasn't an issue. The Michelin pilot sport 3s i had fitted back in March were very very good and a vast improvement over the original Dunlop's.

One area that was lacking were the brakes. I've read on here before that these can suffer on a track and ruin your day. I didn't have time to get them sorted beforehand and as expected the fade came fast, but thankfully didn't spoil the fun.

So today I had yellow stuff pads and feredo race fluid fitted by the good people at Jabba sport, which cost approx £180 in total for parts and labour.

The pads came "pre bedded" according to the box so I gave them a little test on the road out from Jabba. Wow, what a difference. Instant bite and rapid deceleration, just what you need! The original pads had plenty left on them, but I think the fluid had been left worse for wear after the last track session and were feeling very spongy.

Hopefully I'll be able to be a bit harder on them when i go back soon!

The Furby is still tight as a drum otherwise and going strong. I'm still only at ~28k. I had the battery replaced recently too as it was showing signs of not being happy in the recent cold weather but now the ignition is good and strong.

The brakes are my next upgrade for next year as I'm doing the Javelin Sprint Series.

I agree that the standard stuff is very poor for high speed deceleration

How do you find the DSG on track days?

How different are the brakes on the vRS to the Monte?

Mines seemed pretty good on the track.

It was ok, I left it in Sport so I could concentrate on the basics of track driving first. I did find it held on way too long to a gear on the straights when shifting up would be better. I'll be using the paddles next time though!

The vrs has bigger front brakes for a start, plus rear discs as well (although they don't do a lot of the braking). There's also the xds system that brakes an inside wheel to help turn in on sharp corners, so this contributes to them he saying up quickly.

They still slowed me down, but put me off pushing it too hard and not going as fast as I probably could have.

Sure the 105hp montes have 288s up front that's what I have anyway and I've got xds, I adjusted settings on VCDS, brilliant piece of kit. Most people turn it off for track as like you said they heat up fast

Any idea how a 1.6 TDI Manual Monte Carlo came to have XDS & not just Traction Control & ESP?

No idea I did have an option on the list for esp+ so went for it, got the setting in vcds to adjust to and it seems to work.

My car allegedly has ESP+ although had a proper sideways drift moment on the road between galashields and peebles tonight. It got proper sideways and didn't kick it luckily I managed to power out of it but really did need new underwear after it.

Only ever seen it kick in once and that was at a damp knockhill going through the chicane abit too fast.
