Buying Advice

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I'm thinking of buying a second hand Octavia L&K TDi 110 but am a bit concerned with the number of turbo, maf and other problems with the engine. I need something which is going to be pretty reliable as I'm doing around 30-40k a year and so far the Renault Clio I currently have hasn't let me down. How common are these problems? Am I worrying about nothing? I only have the budget to get around a 52 reg with roughly 70k on the clock am I asking for trouble getting something around that mileage?

I did used to have an Octavia GLX TDi estate a couple of years back, was on 140k when I got it and 150k when I sold it and it never let me down, although it was like driving a tank and the seats were like blocks of stone!

Turbo problems are no tvery common on the TDi models, more so on petrol versions.

COnsider that people only ask about these thing son here when they go wrong. What you dont hear about so often are the people who have done thousands of faultless miles.

T'wifes on 32000 miles in under two years lovely car no probs so far on a late 53 plate. Not planning on selling yet but would accept offers IRO 11k

You make a very good point Goochie, people never comment on how well their cars are running. I did speak to a friend whose company uses Octavias. They had turbo problems on the early TDis and on the vRS but not so much on the later (2001 onwards) TDis they have. Am probably worrying about nothign but just wanted to make sure :)

The 2001+ models you mention are likely to be the PD130 engine not the 110. This is the same one that is found in the Fabia VRS.

Oh i thought the PD didn't come until 2003 sometime. Am sure the two I've seen are both 110s

Sold side by side till end of production, 130 was about 1K dearer, and got 6 speed gearbox. 110 is perfectly adequate and have no complaints in t'wifes L & K estate

I think if a 130 was in my budget then I would probably consider it but the 110 will be fine for what I want. The 90 in my old GLX did the job just fine :)
