1.2 HTP limp mode

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Newbie here looking for some help and advice for my lil brothers Fabia.

For the last few weeks it's been going into limp mode randomly. The only pattern seems to be when he's doing 60+ and it's beginning to look like it happens after he's put petrol in it. I've not experienced it myself, but he says that the EML will come on (static) and the car will restrict itself to about 30 MPH. If he stops and restarts, the EML goes off and no codes are being stored. No odd noises, no hestitation/misfiring.

My first port of call was going to be the fuel filter and a dose of BG44K because we've no idea when it was last changed, but other than that (and incase it doesn't work), does anyone else happen to have any other suggestions?

It's an 05 plate with 94K miles. Part service history.

Thanks in advance!

What are you using to try to read the codes?  If a light comes on, a code will always be stored, I believe, it just may not be visible to all reading devices.

Is it the 6-valve or 12-valve engine (12-valve has that written on the engine cover, 6-valve probably doesn't even have an engine cover)?

Which light is it that's coming on, EPC, or the picture of an engine one?

Hi Wino, thanks for the reply! As far as I can remember it's the 12-valve.

Granted, it's probably not the most reliable, but we're using an OBD2 reader off ebay and the Torque app.

It's the engine light that comes on, but then vanishes if you turn the car off and restart. Doing this also takes it back out of limp mode and it'll behave itself again.
