thule xxl 900 on fabia mk2 hatch

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience with using larger roof boxes on fabia mk2? Currently thinking of buying the biggest, chief of them all :notme: , thule xxl 900. Not interested in higer fuel consumption, but only in car stability when driving 100-120 km/h on highways, entering corners at lower speeds, wind reaction, etc. The box will be temporarily on fabia, but when I buy larger car, like superb estate, it will be ok for that car. I must buy it when going on holidays, it is a must for a small car like fabia. Of course, would be used only for lighter stuff, like clothes, etc...recieved official letter from Thule Sweden that it is approved for fabia mk2 and it can be used without problems. But I am interested in real life, some experience please

yes. this one is about 215 cm long if no mistaking. It is quite large. Thule is 235 cm I think, even bigger :D since I dont have any roof racks, would you advise me to buy Skoda OEM bars or thule kit? The price is the same, about 250 euros. Skoda OEM has a bolt that has to be screwed into holes that already exist of the roof. Thule has a differetent sistem. The roof box is pretty expensive, about 800 euros, but I wil last for ever :sun:

this is a thule sistem I need

and this is skoda OEM

I will definitely buy all these things on the very spot in the shop because I must see how it fits :|

Check those holes. My bars do not screw in, there is a pin the fits in the holes.

A Big Box is OK if packing with light bulky stuff & needing the space, Sleeping Backs, Sleeping mats etc..

But if you are going to only put 75kg or less on the roof then a Heavy 24kg Box & Bars is a lot of weight.and a lighter box that can carry what you want to load

it with might be better.

You can get in more weight of stuff than the 49kg or so max when a heavy box is used.

I use a longer slim ski box which is set at the pavement side on the roof and i find i get as much in as with my squarer box and it is easier to pack and unpack.

I see there is newer model now, looks more elegant and slightly less space, 610l, called XT XXL. The weight is 25.5 kg and the bars are 7 kg. I dont know what is the max weight for fabia, 50 kg or 75 kg. Will have to check that....but yeah, only for light bulky stuff. As i said, this will temporarely be on fabia until the bigger car comes....the weight is probably 75 kg max according to this awsome manual:

Just checked my bars and box there skoda items and warrenty cards of which I have copies where sent to Thule, located by pin in top of door area and tightened to Allen key to secure got them new with car to be honest 75kg limit is easy and quickly reached since a third is almost gone with bars and box. My box took 4 person tent, chairs table, air bed, tent electric cable still loads of room

Only thing I noticed was the position of it and opening side, it was first positioned by me to drivers side as it opened the same side but after a few roundabouts I quickly positioned it in the centre of the car much better drive

The only problem I had was the radio aerial I had swapped for the octavia stubby one which is a little more rigid than the one my car came with, so swap the over when box is in use. Just watched the video only difference between skoda and Thule bars is the skoda ones come together you don't have to assemble the foot packs

Yes, the aerial would be a problem, so it would be needed to be taken off. And with a large box like this one from thule, the fifth door wouldnt be able to be opened completely, but its ok since it will be uses a couple of times during the year. So, when going on summer holliday, I will probably have to drive 80 km/h max on highway :x :  weights:

car: 1050 kg

two people: 160 kg

roof load: 75 kg

boot load: LPG tank fully loaded: 35 kg

other boot load: 150 kg

gasoline tank fully loaded: 25 kg

Summ: 1500 kg, max load 1555 kg

60 HP Its gonna die :D plus the cimate unit on

You are fortunate with your Fabia as are those with a Monte Carlo in that you have the choice of fitting a tow bar and towing a trailer with your gear.

This slows you down but then you are not using up fuel as you are with the roof box which really causes slowing down anyway.

This option is not available with a vRS sadly.

& It would have been good where people want canoes or kayaks on the roof and camping gear.
