New Octavia road test in "the sun 27-01-06"

Featured Replies

Forgive me for the spelling mistakes, this is typed straight out of the paper.

The octavia vRS is the perfect example of the new Skoda.

Last week it beat the excellent Focus ST and Golf GTi to win What car? magazine's hot hatch of the year' date=' which tells you this is an outstanding car.

Pernsonally I'd have proberbly prefer the focus ST but the octavia runs it very close and is one of the most rewarding cars to drive fast you will ever come across.

People tend to forget, or perhaps they have never known, that skoda has a reputation for very quick rally cars.

n the vRS, that expertise shines through in its razor-sharp handling abaility.

And of course it goes like a pocket rocket, since it shares the two-litre turbo engine of the golf GIi - which goesd from 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds and onto 147 mph.

Its also has a very reasonable fuel economy of 31.7 mpg. Throw in a slick gearbox, comfy seats and neat touches like drilled pedals and racy trim finish and you have everything you need in a hot hatch.

But there is even more on top of these, as you would expect from a brand whos slogan is "an extra bit of car for your money".

No other hot hatch offers you the vast amount of back seat space and enormous boot that the skoda does - and that means the family can enjoy the driving fun with you.

Thats about it, the review goes on to mention the prices. Seems they like it.

I'll forgive the spelling, but not the fact that you brought a copy of the sun. Thats unforgivable. :P

another Newspaper give rave reviews - only last week the motoring correspondant in teh "Scotsman" said teh new vRS was teh modern day equivelent of the sierra cosworth!
