Parking sensor issue

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm brand new here, picked up my Monte estate on Saturday and already planning some choice OEM mods but before I do I've got some small issues to attend to. Firstly my parking sensors don't seem to be working, I get a short beep when I first put it in reverse but nothing comes up on the head unit and no further sounds, I've been through the menus but found nothing so before I ring the dealer is there anything else to check? Secondly it looks like the last owner used to drive it through a hail storm so I'm on the look out for good body shop in east anglia to get the bonnet sprayed.

You've just bought the car. Was it sold as having parking sensors? If so, then you're well within your rights to make your sole move being to take it back to the dealer and and say "The parking sensors don't work. Fix it."

It is the factory fit sensors or dealer fit ones?

Indeed it might well come to that but they are an hour away so I wanted to rule out anything obvious like they had been turned off by the previous owner because they had a bike rack on board first.

I believe they are factory fit since it's a tech model.

The tech didn't have them as standard it was still an option so they could be a dealer fit which iirc doesn't come up on the head unit.

Ah interesting, any way of telling?

From previous posts I read when I was researching mine the dealer fit ones don't sit flush and stick out a little and are usually black because they are unpainted.

Ah well these are both flush and painted, I will give the dealers a bell next week.

Had a look and in the manual it says that if you tow a trailer then the parking sensors turn off.

Could the bike rack be connecting to something that turns it off?

Not always black. My dealer fit ones are colour coded.

They have a ring around though instead of fitting flush... also they dont show up on the headunit when reverse is selected.

The sound comes through a little speaker in the boot instead of the radio speakers.

Assuming it only knows if somethings there if a lighting rack for example is plugged in?

Otherwise, they might work but they'd just pick up the bike rack and give it a constant beep all the time.

Maybe nothing to do with this,

but always worth checking that a car detailer / valeter has not disabled the reversing sensors with waxing them,

maybe not common but i have seen brand new cars with the sensors appearing faulty and it turns out that polished sensors were the cause.

As to used cars you never know what previous owners have done with in car entertainment upgrades, down grades, returned to standard, or standard enough to hand a car back.

Hey all, just a little update, I have discovered it is a dealer fit kit, looked in the mirror when I put it in reverse the other day and spotted a small red light. When I went for a closer look it was a small speaker some googling reveals this to be part of BEA710 001 an official dealer fit kit. I have also spoken to the dealer and they have asked me to get it booked in with them although it may take me a while.

Thanks for that, I'll take a look.

Just a quick update, Sensors are working just not as far back as i thought they should. Looking in the manual it appears as though they are fixed distance.

300mm away is a constant beep, i think.
