VCDS and a Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if this is 'norma' on a Mk3 Fabia (as it doesn't happen with my Touran).

Connected VCDS to the Fabia for the first time today, the EPC and engine warning lights were illuminated and there was an alert tone sounding, starting the engine the lights went out and the tone stopped. Without the VCDS cable connected there is no alert tone, warning lights are on briefly and go out when the enigine started,

So does connecting VCDS normally  cause the EPC symbol to illuminate and the alert tone to sound until the engine is started?

There were a few errors which I cleared, one however returns immediately.

Not sure if this is the external aerial on the roof or the aerial array in the rear windscreen, as the rear windscreen was recently replaced under warranty I will speak to the dealer and see what they have to say.

Strange, the date stamp on that logged fault was yesterday, so it looks like that fault has not been there for a long time.  I must say that since VCDS changed to being v-e-r-y  s-l-o-w due to an update, I have never ever been back to use it on wife's late 2015 Polo, though I've used it a few times on the late 2009 Ibiza and RossTech seem to have addressed the complained about issues.

Maybe try that VCDS cable on another VAG car if possible to make sure that it is still working okay?

Edit:- maybe work out a good reason for getting the dealer to look at that car as a long time ago a local VW main dealer tried to tell me that unless I had bought the "golden" version of VAG COM, all I would do would be to damage the car - CLOWNS!!  Of course maybe 10 years on, VAG dealers might be taking on a more sensible view of customers using things like VCDS.

I'd been using the cable on my Touran immediately before using it (for the first time) on the Fabia, I'll check it with the Touran again though to be sure.

I cleared the original aerial fault, here is the original fault code information

and it came back immediately, hence the recent timestamp.

Oh, so does 4/10/16 tie in with when you had the rear screen replaced?

Unfortunately not, rear screen was replaced on 24/11/16.

The timestamp of 4/10/16 12:18 is when the car was started at lunch-time to drive home, after being parked for a couple of hours. Since the last post I've checked the external aerial and it was possible to turn it a few millimetres to tighten it, so maybe someone had an unsuccessful go at removing it while its was parked? I'll have another go with VCDS and see if the fault has cleared.

Update:

Tested the cable in my Touran - I was fine, connected up the Fabia again and this time worked as expected no alert tone or warning lights illuminated. Probably didn't push the cable fully into the socket the first time.

Still got the fault with the aerial, so I think I'll have a word with the dealer. As the original fault was logged before the rear screen was changed then its probably the external roof aerial, as the car is still under warranty if its faulty it may be covered.

A further update.

Fabia had its first service ( 2 years) and I showed the dealer the VCDS printout, they checked confirmed it was a fault, would be fixed under warranty. Turned out to the Infotainment unit that had to be replaced, all sorted now. and the stop/start is working again properly, coincidence?
