Hello from Dublin

Featured Replies

Hi. Im new to this site. I've a 2001 Octavia MkI 4x4 I've owned for about 7 years and plan to keep this family car on the go for as long as we can.

I've a couple of questions to throw out there so I hope I can lodge these in the right place for some advice.

Looking forward to the conversation.

Welcome along, from a fellow Irish member! That's a rare enough car around these parts. I haven't seen too many 4x4 MKIs around. You're obviously looking after it anyway.

Thanks lads. Yeah it was rear ended last year and virtually financially written off. We begged the assessor that the car was unique and nothing wrong with the engine. It was repaired by body panel specialists in North Co Dublin just about in the insurance budget to keep it on the road. We were lucky and delighted to have it back on the road.

Keep it running..

them 4x4s are rare anyway, esp in Ireland.. noone bought them here which is a massive shame :(

You were lucky then as it was obviously close to being a write-off. I'm sure you'll mind it well and I've seen well looked after Octavias with some serious mileage on them. You only have to look at any taxi rank, especially around Dublin.

I was very lucky and thankfully wife and kids were safe in it when it was rear ended. The other car looked like it had been in a stock car race it was mashed at the front. Mine looked grand from the outside but the boot hat been shoved in underneath. But I knew how good a car it was to save. The panel beaters pulled it back to shape and replaced the rear door.

I couldn't care less about the not great fuel consumption. It's a marvelous car that has been to the continent on numerous occasions never letting us down. There's only 135,000 on it sure it's a spring chicken!
