Mk1 Fabia electric windows not working - now won't start...

Featured Replies

I wondered if anyone had experienced similar issues. There have been a few little niggles with my 07 Fabia 1.2htp over the last month or so - culminating with it not starting today. This may or may not be related to the niggles...

  • I've had temperature warning light on intermittently recently. Local Skoda garage had a look and claimed there is no problem, having plugged it in to their Diagnostic tool.
  • On start up there seems to be battery issue  - the radio goes into Safe mode and I have to key the code in.
  • Last week the front electric windows stopped working, I tried re-setting them yesterday as per the manual's instructions, but to no avail.
  • Today the car won't start - turns over, doesn't fire then dies. All electrics seem ok - aside from the windows!

does anyone have any ideas if these issues could be related - or just all separate pieces of bad luck - thanks in advance...

Ask if their fault reader can tell you if the thermostat could be at fault :)

The radio going into safe mode suggests a power issue. Might be worth checking your battery with a multimeter.

Do the windows not work at all? Have you checked fuses etc.?

Thanks for your response - will check the battery this evening - Windows won't budge, not checked fuses as yet but will do so.

1) Temperature warning flashing yellow on first start-up? If so it's well documented and you need the prong scraping trick or a new header tank depending on whether you have a "visible prongs" header or not.

2-4) Check battery. If that's had it get a new one; otherwise I suspect that your convenience ECU may be losing its permanent live.

Thanks Ken - I'll look into these.

looking like the battery - so hopefully that explains the issues with the windows etc - got it charged up and started, will get a new battery tomorrow. Cheers for all the responses - great forum.
