Bulb failure warning system not working?

Featured Replies

Just found out my near side headlight isn't working. That's annoying enough as it is since they are difficult to replace. What annoys me more is that the bulb failure warning system which I thought the vRS had didn't warn me at all. I've been using it today and its not said anything. Even with the engine running and the head lights in the On position it hasn't shown any warnings on the dash or maxidot.

Does the vrs actually have such a system or anyone else experienced this?

Yeah it does have the system... sometimes it seems to take a while to flag a fault though. Other times it takes about half a second.

Can't say for headlight bulbs but mine showed my brake light bulb out pretty much instantly.

I blew the fuse for the back lights changing the boot light once.

The dash told me nearly as fast as all the cars following me, at night, as i was going to get a fuse :D.

That's what im worried about. If it didn't warn in the headlight, how would I see another light was out between manual checks? Dealer trip I'm thinking to see what's up.

Easy.

Reflections. I'm always having a cheeky look in reflections from the car infront.

Plus when its really dark you know theirs a problem cos you've only got half the light :D.

Mines was the same both my bulbs failed in my headlights and no warning lights after an hour yet when I tried turning on cornering fog lights which don't work it flagged with a bulb warning straight away

Yep I do that. It's annoying that its not working. I've got it booked into the dealer tomorrow to have a look.

Haha me too! I just hope its not "the vrs doesn't have that system" or "its working as it should"

Probably that it's not a bullet proof system and that it's installed to aid finding a failed bulb not fitted to replace manually checking bulbs.

Same as the tyre pressure system is fitted to help let you know your tyre is going down but doesn't mean you shouldn't check them.

Yeah, I do check them every week manually which is how I found out. Same with the tyres. Can't stand stuff not doing as it should!

Agreed.

I think itll be something like that too.

SOLVED: Took it into the dealer today to investigate why the failure system didn't alert and to also swap the bulb with one of my spares (since there was no hope of me getting my hand into the tiny gap on the passenger side!).

They confirmed that it wasn't working on with the front lights, then removed a rear light and the system gave a warning. They had to ring Skoda technical support who say this is by design. Apparently as the rears are controlled from the Body control unit, only they will provide a warning. Since the front lights are controlled separately from the light switch they do not give a warning.

They were as surprised as I was when they told me. They didn't charge me anything either and even did a free health check video without me asking. Quality service as usual from the staff too.

Wonder why it through up a bulb fault when I tried to turn on cornering fogs then?

Found out i'd been driving for some time without my front drivers side headlight so i got out of the car with my headlight on and gave the headlight a sharp thump with the side of my fist and low and behold it came on and since halfords changed my sidelights to LEDs i've had no probs with my headlight
