This is going to sound very very odd I know 

 

Where is the airbox on the 1.4 16v ????   There doesn't seem to be one?

Pull the engine cover off, all should become clear.

I had a Yank on it (Wirth oil cap off) it wouldn't budge.

 

Only want to know as apparently there is a Y connector there for the rear washer jet.... I saw an elbow joint on passenger side which had broken but apparently there is one on the bulkhead near or under the airbox....

 

Do you know of this?

sorry no, I don't. I only had my 1.4 for a short while and I've had no front end pipe washer issues on my 1.9.

It's down behind the ABS pump on the righthand side of the bulkhead as you look at it.

Ok,

All that was there was a right angle elbow joint, this had been disconnected - I reconnected it and tested. Only then to still see a puddle of water under the car!
