add a circuit question

Featured Replies

Hard wired in my dash cam ages ago thought it was all lovely and neat using a piggy back fuse, ran it up the pillar no wires showing...

I went to use my headlight adjusters. No movement.

Check what fuse it is.... the one I'd piggy backed.

Unplugged and put just the fuse in. Headlights go up and down.

Try another fuse, same story.

Does this mean I have the fuses the wrong way around?

Don't want to swap them around as the fuse for the dash cam is a lot lower rating. Surely it will just blow a fuse if I try?

Original fuse at the bottom, new fuse on top...

Also on this subject is there a switched live in the engine fuse box?

Here are the instructions from one vendor which suggests you have the fuses the wrong way round, BUT with a good fuse in both locations then both circuits should work. Check your fuses first but the headlight adjuster may not the best place for the supply. Use a multimeter to probe for a switched supply. The fuse listing will give you a clue. From memory some of the blanks near the bottom of the fuse box can also be used.

Installation is easy:
1.Simply remove an existing fuse from the fuse box, insert that fuse in to the bottom slot of the fuse tap.
2.Insert a suitable fuse for the new accessory in to the top slot.
3.Crimp your new live wire to the blue butt terminal on the fuse tap.
4.Insert the fuse tap into the fuse box slot where the fuse originally was.

They are the instructions I followed. Picked that fuse as it's a switched live.

This pic shows the position I used to test before putting in a piggy back fuse works great and is ig switched

Did you put both fuses in the piggy back fuse holder? You need both in for them to work. Sorry if you've done that. Got pic of it installed?
