Hello all, selling my 2013 Fiesta and spending around 4k on a new car, now I am going for a Diesel as we will be taking lots of road trips, I plan on sleeping in the back of the car though, I want an Octavia or Superb, do the rear seats go all the way down on all models? looked at older Superbs and the 2008 models, and same with Octavias.

Hi,

The superb would be a bigger bet. Sadly they don't have a fully flat back. This is fairly easily solved with a bit of ply/diy to raise the boot floor. This can be doubled up as 'hidden' storage too. The superb is slightly longer so you'll have a little more room.

If you were going for a hatch, you can head in the boot and then it's dark too :)

That said, plenty of people I know use berlingo vans and the octavia is as long, if not longer.

Another solution is to not think about sleeping on the floor, but up off it. You can achieve this I reckon in the estate form.

I've not done this but thought about it.

I'd tilt front seats forward. Leave back seats up; without headrests. Then lay a removable floor, steel pipe would do it. On the front near the A pillar seatbelt points lay a strap, this suspends the front of the platform.  A higher topped model like the roomster or yeti would work.

One other thing if travelling and sleeping is, storage and secure storage at that. A massive problem for camper vans etc is that when you leave the car, you leave everything. Depending on what you're doing this might mean leaving 'valuables'. Might be worth thinking about that too. The hidden floor with a bolted 'case' might be worth it.

You certainly want to be insulated and have an ability to secure doors from the inside. Fro my own car sleeping in scotland, it's certainly handy to have a manual rear window... not only to get in and out, but for those nights, where you need a little air.

HTH.

For 4k I'd seriously think about a small van; roomster, you might find one with an LPG conversion in place too. Petrol and LPG cheaper than diesel and it's hardly noticeable when switching or running.

Hi there, welcome along!  Good advice from Colin above.  If you're budget could stretch to it, a combi (estate) Superb would be a good choice.  Lots of (legal) tinting options too for the rear for some extra privacy
