Abandoned Cars RANT

Featured Replies

Had the joyous task of contacting the local constabulary today concerning 4 abandoned cars on the company premises.

Surprise, Surprise, no registered keepers, no tax, not reported stolen etc etc

So on go the 7 day removal notices (applied with particularly sticky gaffa tape) and sit & wait.

 I find it infuriating that nothing can be done by the authorities as they are on "Private Property" therfore it is the porperty owners responsibility for removal and associated costs, wheras if it is on a public road it is the liability of the authorities as it is a danger to traffic

Any way i'll keep a day by day progress log and update on any movements for your viewing pleasure!!

The obvious answer (and what I used to hint that people should do) is that if the car was to find it's way onto the road outside it's no longer your problem

Also, are the cars any good? you could strip and sell them on ebay ;)

Then hook the up to a 4x4 and drag them onto the road.

:idea:Indeed, but in a twisted kind of way I'd really rather like to see them crushed  :mischief:

Errr.........no Althuogh all of them are Octy Beaters

G plate (faded) Blue Volvo estate (nice  )

J plate astra in rust red

K plate Frontera in rsut red

M plate mondeo in greeny blue

Take yer pick!!

Shunt the rusty skips onto the main road and leave plod to sort it out..

Problem with that - 1) They'll charge you for it as you(r company) has reported them and 2) you could get done for damaging the goods.

I know this is highly unfair etc, but the same problem doesn't just happen for companies, it also happens on private carparks near our flat - it's only when you start threating with ringing newspapers etc and supply photographs that they take action. Both police & council are bound by a bunch of rules, and things can drag on because of that. Neither 'party' is to blame in particular, it's just the way it is :(

Hope you get it sorted soon though

Used to get abandoned cars when I was at the petrol station. And after 11/9 in America, we got a letter from BP telling us that if we found an abandoned car on the forecourt to call the police as it could be a terrorist threat (think car bomb+petrol station, not that it would do *that* much damage in reality). Sussex police didn't seem to get that message from BP though

Id be tempted to take off any bits worth any money, then contact the council and report them as a danger.

Though if it's private land its down to the land onwer to deal with it. You could push them onto the public road, but I didn't say that

If you get any rovers let me know ;)

You don't work for Sussex Police contact centre do you? They said exactly that to me once

Hell, if they're on private land, you bloody own them. 1 day 99p auction for all 4 cars as spares, buyer collects. Job done!;)

nope but it's the sort of reply I would give in my contact centre :P

aslong as no-one catches you moving it who's to say some kids didn;t do it.

Again I didn't say that
