**URGENT HELP WANTED** My Mk1 Octavia VRS isn't running right! Engine just will not stay on. :'(

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I own a Mk1 Octavia VRS running a Garrett GT3076r turbo. The car was running well until a few days ago.

It's got forged internals and all other supporting mods that are necessary.

Did a pull in 2nd gear and the engine suddenly cut out. It was as though someone turned off the ignition. It wasn't dramatic. No weird sounds, no hoses had popped out, no leaks and the timing belt was intact.

I let the car cool down, and cranked it. Fired right up without any hesitation. Gave it a few revs and it all seemed normal. The idle was hunting around by 200 rpms+/-. The car stays on it its allowed to idle while it hunts for rpms.

Tried to get the car rolling again and the engine simply keeps dying. I can keep cranking the car and it fires right up each time. But if i need to get it rolling even 10 feet, i have to slip the clutch alot. The engine will eventually cut out again after rolling 20 feet.

Another thing that happens is that the car will not rev past 5.6k rpms and if i take my foot off the throttle and let the revs fall, they drop steadily and yet again the engine dies out. This lead me to believe that it could be a faulty fuel system. So i had the primary and also the secondary inline pump checked for pressure. All the hoses upto the injectors were also free and delivered good pressure to the injectors. Haven't checked anything else thus far since I decided to ship the car home.

The car is also now spewing out minimal black smoke from running a little rich I guess and from the sound of it, there seems to be a boost leak.

Im not sure if the idling and engine cut out issue is related to the boost leak. But the car is now not drivable at all and I hope that the fix is something simple.

Its on a truck back home and will reach in a couple of days. So im hoping that someone over here can help me sort this out.

If anybody has had similar issues or knows what could be the probable cause for the engine not staying on, please help me out.

Thanks in advance! Cheers.

Needed to add additional info

If the idle was hunting that badly, you may well have a failed idle stabilisation control.

Is this running standard ECU setup appropriately mapped or is it running a standalone management system?.
