How good is your S3 rear heated window?

Featured Replies

I've only used it a couple of times but found it to be slow to clear the rear screen, has anyone else found this? I need another frost to investigate further.

Thanks all

Do you mean ice or internal fogging? I don't think heated rear windows are really meant for clearing external ice, although they do help!

I haven't found it particularly slow under normal use.

Fogging more so... may be I expect too much.

Can't say I really noticed it that much, mine clears satisfactorily.

Lack of rear wiper being a contributing factor, perhaps?

Not meaning to be rude but if it is internal fogging the clearing of the inside is reduced significantly if the inside of the window has not be cleaned for a while. It may appear clean but the general film can easily build up. This is what I have found on mine anyway.

The inside won't have been coated though. It's the "fog" on the inside which slows down the effectiveness of the heating elements

Isn't the heated rear screen to keep your hands warm when your pushing it:wondering:

Ber-dum-tish

Funnily enough, I was thinking the same yesterday.  I also think that the heated mirrors are slower than the ones on my SII although they were fancy autodimming ones.  I've got a tint film on the inside of my windows but had the same on the SII which seemed to demist faster.  I just assumed that the SIII demisters draw a lower current for eco reasons and are therefore slower but that's just an idea that popped into my head with nothing to back it up.

I'm glad its not just me then!

My rear screen works pretty well (combi) - however once or twice its not worked when enabled.

One other thing.. i have the rear centre blowers pointed upwards and open so airflow moves around the rear of the car.

I have to say...mine is crap. When on here to moan about it and I thought I would search for it. Heating the cabin to 30c clears it faster than the HRW!

It was so slow I've checked the fuse! 20 mins (with the heat and aircon on) to clear the internal fogging. Absolutely crap. The worst HRW I've known in 30 years of motoring.

Mine clears up fogging within 2..3 minutes (hatch). If you have auto start-stop that disables consumers (seat and window heating among others) once the engine is stopped and my hunch is that it might not restart them until the battery is sufficiently charged.
