Digibox connected to a std TFT - possible?

Featured Replies

No idea if this is possible, but just considering options. I'd quite like digital TV in the same room as my main PC, and as I can only look at one thing at a time, thought I may be able to use my existing TFT? I also quite like the look of the 'Top-Up' TV package, and I don't think that's available if I go the computer DVB-T route....

Would some sort of passthrough box be viable, to move the signal from the digibox to either a D-Sub or DVI connection on the TFT?

This may not be possible at all, or work out to be very expensive, but thought I'd ask all the same :)

Theoretically the aerial out, which would normally go to your TV from the Digibox would plug into the aerial in of a TV tuner in your PC, tune your PC TV Tuner to one particular channel and change the channel with your normal remote on the Digibox.

I have seen in the past boxes of which you speak but to be honest you would be better off with a cheap TV Tuner card and then you could use your PC as a PVR too.

Thanks, but you're missing the point slightly. I was wondering if it was possible to use a standard freeview digibox with a TFT screen. I'm not involving the PC at all at this stage.

I know I could buy a PCI/USB TV card, but then you can't get the extra channels on that, as 'Top Up TV' will only work with std freeview boxes.

You can get adaptors to go from scart to VGA and vice versa but they aren't all that cheap and the quality of the picture can be a bit iffy.

I'd consider swapping the monitor for one with a Composite or S-Video input as that will make the job much easier

to convert what you've got to what you need would mean a very costly adapter indeed as it would be a 'live' conversion of a signal rather than just a conversion of pin arrangement. what inputs does your tft have then?

OK guys, thanks - thought as much!

Bengie - it has D-Sub and DVI. Maybe if it had S-Video In I might have stood a chance, but then again it's a normal computer TFT monitor, Will just have to save up for an LCD TV then

Not missing the point just not describing myself properly I think.

Aerial in to Digibox, aerial out to PC with TV Card.

So you tune your PC into the signal you are recieving from the digibox. Then if you want to change channels you point your remote at the Digibox with all of the extra channels on.

As others have said adaptors are costly and TBH I can't find any!

Plus again you get the benefit of being able to use the PC as a PVR.

That's not a bad idea at all, thanks! Will ponder that one me thinks.

Apologies - I missed this in the original thread :o
