Superb Estate Mk2 2014 CR170 DSG

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a full and registered version of VCDS, though I am not very experienced in using it.

The seat belt warning light is illuminated and a VCDS scan lists faults with Driver and Rear passenger pre-tensioners.

All the seat belts in my car are operational, that is, not locked by fired pre-tensioners.

Since VCDS is US built, and the car is European, the driver's position would normally be on the left of the vehicle. In the UK, the driver sits on the right.

In view of the moveable position of the drivers location depending on country, the description of the position of these 'suspect' pretensioners relative to the Driver is less than helpful, when a simple Left Hand or Right Hand would apply universally.

Before commiting time and money to rectify this, can anyone tell me definitively, if VCDS determines the country (and therefore the actual position of the driver) from data collected and uses this to signify relative positions, please?

i.e. does the scan indicate problems with Front Right and Rear Left (UK driving position) or Front Left and Rear Right?

Kind regards,

Paul

Welcome!

Probably worth adding a scan up so we can see what you're having issues with.

I can't say for sure in this instance, but generally speaking if VCDS mentions the drivers side, then it is the drivers side regardless of LHD/RHD.

Given that the codes differentiate between left and right hand drive I would say they'll be bang on the money.

I've never had an issue with this in over 10 years of use.

Thank you both for your responses which were encouragement enough for me to spend some money.

My original doubt was because I had replaced the front LH  and rear RH belts already, as these were locked down tight (so, quite clearly activated and fired), whilst the front RH and rear LH appeared to be working OK.

I have now fitted driver and rear passenger replacement seat belts to my vehicle, cleared the fault codes with VCDS and the airbag warning light now illuminates and extinguishes correctly. Happy days

Sorry I took so long to get around to this task and to respond here.

Kind regards,

Paul
