Coding HID's

Featured Replies

I know I have seen many threads like this already but I am still unclear.  I am about to fit some HID's non cambus from Londoncolour but I don't seem to have the right coding in VCDS.  I have gone into Byte 14 but have no bit 4 to tick unless I click on LCode2 and tick it that way.  I have gone through the other options and found the bi-xenons under a different byte but want to confirm before I make any changes and f**k it up.

Any help or guidance would be great

Thanks

The FL Octy is well known not to like any BCM changes for HIDs

Just to correct that, there is no issue with coding the BCM for HIDs.

The issue is that aftermarket ballasts have been known to create voltage surges that damages the MOSFET inside the BCM, normally requiring a new BCM to be installed.

The method Mike used will remove the risk of damaging the BCM from this surge :)

You have a FL Octavia -don't start coding the BCM unless you want to destroy it. The FL Octy is well known not to like any BCM changes for HIDs

I have recently got round this by using resistors to emulate the original headlight bulbs, and by adding completely new power supplies for the HIDs.

All details are here:

Please think very carefully about adding the HIDs in the conventional way.

How did you manage to do the resistors as I am a complete novice

Thanks for this. Might just stick some uprated bulbs in as dont want to fry anything and fork out more money

Do it like in my other thread - its perfectly safe, and will cost you only a couple of relays, a couple of resistors and a length of twin core wiring. Absolutely no regrets about doing it - the difference is literally night and day.

The resistors simply bridge the existing connector for the dipped beam bulbs, same resistance as a bulb so the car doesn't know that the bulbs are out and the resistors are in. The cable just takes the resistor outside the headlight casing as it does get very warm

Where abouts did you take the feed for the negative part of the cable? I can see the positive is taken from the fuse box area.
