My first Octavia

Featured Replies

Well after many years in VW's and a quick introduction to Skodas in the guise of a Superb 1.9 Elegance which I recently sold and found a love for Skodas has brought me to this....an 09 Octavia Limited Edition number 168 of 500 and I am really getting to like it, lost a lot of toys from the Superb but gained a big smile from the handling and power.

Plans are mats, mop and polish, wheel refurb in Gunmetal, an Android headunit and then finally a remap....for now ;-)

Hi,

That is a nice looking toy. Welcome to the gang.

May I also recommend the chrome vRS door sill strips, if you don't have them? They protect the paint as you get in and out and look really nice.

You know I think they are already fitted but it isn't something I looked for, will check now lol.

chrome vRS door sill strips

were they standard on the LE as i also have them fitted on mine

personally i would ditch the alloys very soft and prone to buckling . spend the refurb money on a new set of alloys . 3 choices similar style multi spoke alloys or standard vrs zeniths or go crazing and pick a set of alloys you like. personally i went with keeping the multi spoke look in keeping with what makes the LE look different. other LE owners have gone other ways just ask for pictures from other LE owners if you wish

Thanks, Steve.

I don't know if the strips were standard on the LE but I believe they were a chargeable extra on the standard vRS.

That's really interesting information about the alloys. Two of mine have scratches from the previous owner and one is slightly buckled. I was going to go down to Alloy Wheel Specialist in town and see if they can get them cleaned up and made circular again but now I'm wondering if I'd be better replacing them with a new set.

cheers

do a quick search about octavia limited edition on this site and the alloy wheel problem will soon crop up. far too many potholes onour roads now  abridged version skoda will do nothing as the alloys are still on sale about £120 if i remember. not cheap . they buckle too easy. i chose to not buy a replacement alloy that is prone to buckling to replace an alloy that is prone to buckling . throwing good money after bad , but other owners chose different.

Yeah the kick plates are there and they are standard on the LE looking at the brochure, I had read about the softness of the alloys and to be honest I am not a huge fan of the multispokes, I am going to look out for some 18" VAG alloys as I know a guy who refurbs OE stuff and sells them fairly cheap, just need to look at a few Octavia's with different alloys, I do like the standard VRS ones but putting them on would make it look standard which I don't want, whichever it will be I think I'll be going Gunmetal not silver.

this is mine with fox fxo4 multi spokes on

Good match, you got a full picture of the car?

Did I understand correctly that it's not all the Skoda wheels that are soft, just the ones the car came with and others, like the 18" Zenith are OK?

Are there any particular wheels from any seller you think look really good on the vRS and are decent?

  • Author

Think it's just the Limited Edition ones, others are ok.

yes its just the limited edition  18" monza alloy price is about £155 each for Plasticine strength alloys not suited to our pothole roads

Well as usual with any car I buy the modding starts, bought a few things which are easy mods....

Will be adding front and rear cameras also, next is wheels and remap.

Thinking of the same wheels I put on the Superb?

I'd love an Android head unit but it's finding one guaranteed to work with my 2007 L&K as an awful lot of aftermarket stuff is only for 2009 onwards facelift cars.

It depends what you have fitted now, do you have a picture?

  • Hi T200 I believe it's the stream MP3 played with the built in 6 disc changer ... I did have a few photos but deleted them to free up space on my iPad

The one I bought is a straight fit and it retains all the CanBus operations like maxidot, climate, parking sensors etc.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112241322322?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They only say 2009 on because of the fascia but pre 09 also have the same fascia unless you have the smaller Columbus.

The measurements are in the Ad, it's great as well as the quadlock is like factory as is the aerial, takes 15mins to fit.

Hi T200, measurement wise the unit would fit into the dash the worry is that it might not work or communicate with my Canbus as I know there are major differences between the pre FL and 2009 on FL cars ....

At the moment I'm using a Bluetooth adaptor plugged into the Aux in socket in the jumbo box and steaming either the music files or Internet radio on my tablet via this to the head unit, I was using a personal DAB radio but it was a bit bulky and radio reception iffy, however whilst the music plays great and is a godsend on long journeys the Internet radio reception keeps dropping out even with 4G here in Central Scotland and it's so annoying

Mine is pre fl although it's an odd one as I have fl dash and climate but a guy on Facebook on the VRS owners bought the same one I recommended for his 07 to replace a Stream and it works perfectly, don't worry it will communicate with your Canbus fine.
